It is with great pleasure that we would like to announce the new solo exhibition by Janine van Oene, Cottage Core. For this exhibition Janine created a display of paintings that will feature a diverse range—some vibrant, others subdued; some beautiful, others ‘ugly’; some bold, others subtle. With these small-scale paintings, the artist dares to embrace ‘uglier’ or more minimal approaches that challenge her usual process of seeking perfection. Why is it that every exhibit boasts only polished, flawless works? The exhibition’s essence lies in displaying this ongoing creative journey.

Going into a completely new artistic direction Janine creates vibrant lines that waltz in a mesmerizing display, echoing the essence of Cottagecore—a celebration of traditional rural attire, cozy interiors, and artisanal crafts like drawing, baking, crafting, foraging, farming, sewing, drying flowers. Janine van Oene’s latest series, inspired by this aesthetic, where traditional crafts and rural living blend seamlessly to create an atmosphere of comfort and nostalgia, the simple joys of rural life, tradition, and craftsmanship.

With each meticulously layered stroke, the canvas becomes a picturesque garden, evoking familiar sensations and elements found in Cottagecore’s rustic charm. These strokes capture the essence of a timeless existence, embodying the perpetual journey within the canvas, much like the serene movements of seaweed in a countryside stream.

The canvas beckons with a tantalizing familiarity – we discern coral, orchid leaves, or tentacles – that invite viewers to delve deeper into the Cottagecore universe—an aesthetic linked to grandmacore, goblincore, and fairycore movements. Within Janine van Oene’s delicate brushstrokes and vivid hues lies an encapsulation of idyllic charm, inviting spectators to partake in its captivating essence.
