At the second edition of NAP+, Gerhard Hofland presents a compelling dual presentation by Janine van Oene and Frank Koolen, two artists who share a fascination with form, material, and meaning as well as the tension between control and surrender.
Van Oene showcases new abstract paintings guided by the physical qualities of oil paint. Through large, layered canvases, she intuitively balances control and movement, allowing each work to unfold gradually into a distinct presence; alive, expressive, and reflective.
Koolen presents sculptures from his Hardcore Fauna series: 3D-printed plant pots based on scans of clay heads. Straddling the line between art and design, uniqueness and multiplicity, these works question how we tame nature while yearning for authenticity. Like Van Oene, Koolen embraces doubt, chance, and contradiction, inviting meaning to emerge through interaction.
Together, their works form a surprising dialogue between organic form and playful experimentation, resonating both materially and conceptually.
